| After many years of the idea being proposed by
Wivenhoe Town Council, Colchester Borough Council provided a grant of
almost £11,000 to pay the cost of a new shelter on The Quay.
The Town Council worked with Tim Snow, an architect living in Wivenhoe
when the project was started, to design a replacement shelter. After
planning approval was obtained, there was a further delay in finding a
builder to undertake the work within the budget allowed.
Eventually work commenced early in 2002, and a plaque was unveiled in
October 2002 to record its official opening and the financial
contribution from Colchester Borough Council.
