July 2008 - Refit announced for Wivenhoe Co-op

£200,000 refit on the way for Wivenhoe Co-op Food Store

The East of England Co-operative Society will shortly begin a £200,000 refurbishment of its popular Wivenhoe Food Store.

The store recently won a Gold Award for Food Store of the Year at the Society’s OSCAS (Outstanding Service to Customers and Staff) Awards Ceremony, recognising the exceptional performance of the store and its staff.

The East of England Co-op’s new brand identity will be introduced and the planned changes will include the introduction of new refrigerated produce units, kiosk and checkouts.  There will be several new features including a new deli counter, salad bar and hot food unit, which will enhance the store’s offer to customers and strengthen its already strong reputation for quality fresh foods.    Some work to the back areas of the store has already begun, with improvements to the sales area starting late-summer.

Richard Samson, Chief Executive, said:  “Our commitment to updating our Wivenhoe store is the latest stage in our multi-million pound, self-funded development programme right across East Anglia .  In addition to the changes we have planned at Wivenhoe, we have just re-launched our Felixstowe development where more than £1.2 million was spent on our Supermarket, Pharmacy, Optical, Home Store and Petrol Forecourt.”

Notes:

  • The East of England Co-operative Society is the largest independent retailer in East Anglia and the third largest independent consumer co-operative in the UK .  It has over 200 trading outlets, which are located in 73 towns and villages, plus the three regional centres of Norwich , Ipswich and Colchester, covering more than 2,000 square miles of East Anglian countryside, from Sheringham in Norfolk to Burnham-on-Crouch in Essex .
  • The Society’s diverse business activities include: food stores and supermarkets, department and home stores, jewellery, travel, pharmacy, optical and funeral branches, petrol forecourts and motor dealerships.
