| November 2008: A new Webmaster
- Eugene Kraft - takes over from Peter Hill
Six and a half years ago after establishing the Wivenhoe Encyclopedia
in May 2002, the community web site for Wivenhoe, Peter Hill has stepped
down as Webmaster and former Borough Councillor Eugene Kraft has taken
over.
Peter said: "I am extremely grateful to Eugene for taking over the
management of the web site. I have had a lot of satisfaction from
creating over 1,500 web pages since its inception. There have been so
many facets to it: headline news items to creating home pages for nearly
50 of Wivenhoe's organisations, promoting a Wivenhoe diary with details
of current events; a Wivenhoe People section with details of just a few
of Wivenhoe's characters and personalities now and in the past; a
history section which I hope will grow as a permanent record of
Wivenhoe's rich maritime past. I have been very pleased to use the web
site to promote Wivenhoe's many artists and art exhibitions so that
Wivenhoe is known for something other than being just a very lively and
interesting small town. |

There are more businesses here than perhaps people
realise and it has been important to me and the Town Council to promote
the concept of a local economy after having created the WivenhoeFirst
campaign in 1996, working with the local traders, when I was then Town
Mayor. There is so much here in Wivenhoe, we are all very lucky. I feel
as though I have been privileged to start this 'encyclopedia' of
knowledge about Wivenhoe and I hope Eugene will get that same sense of
satisfaction from managing it. It is not without hard work of course,
several hours per week to keep it up to date, but the reward is the many
positive comments I have received from people who have gained something
from it, whether traders who have received another order, or people who
have lost touch with friends or relations who have discovered them
through the web site."
Eugene Kraft said: Peter has done a superb job in creating
this site and maintaining it. This has taken a huge amount of his
time but it has been a labour of love.
I hope I can provide the same service. Initially I am not
planning any major changes though I will be archiving some old material. Please let me know if
any items need updating and of course if there is any new material for
the site. E-mail me at: Click
