May 2007 - Wivenhoe Town and Gown Annual Bursary Award and Presentation

The funds raised at the Wivenhoe Town and Gown Dinner last November provided a bursary of £500 which was presented to Zarine Russell on Monday 21st May.

Zarine is currently reading for a BA in Latin American Studies with Human Rights and will use the bursary towards her forthcoming year abroad in Colombia.  Sir Ivor Crewe, Zarine Russell and Wivenhoe Town Mayor, Cllr Penny Kraft

The cheque was presented by Cllr Penny Kraft, Mayor of Wivenhoe and the Vice Chancellor, Prof Sir Ivor Crewe.

The Town and Gown Dinner was set up in 2005 by Tom Roberts and Dilly Meyer (then Mayor and Mayoress of Wivenhoe) and provides funds for a deserving student resident in Wivenhoe at the time of allocation.  The dinner is held at Wivenhoe House and includes an after dinner speaker.

The next Town and Gown Dinner will be hosted by the Mayor of Wivenhoe, Cllr Dave Purdey on Friday 16th November 2007.  If you would like to support this worthwhile event and help forge better links between the University of Essex and the town of Wivenhoe, please contact Dilly Meyer,
