December Market and Late Night Night Shopping - 2006

Once again, Wivenhoe's High Street was full of people on Thursday 7th December for Wivenhoe's annual Late Night Shopping Evening, December Market in St Mary's Church and Churchyard and the switch-on of Wivenhoe's street lights by Town Mayor, Cllr Penny Kraft.

Wivenhoe was lucky with the weather. During the afternoon it poured with rain but it later cleared leaving a crisp but clear evening. This was Mary Hignell's first year running things, having taken over from Bonnie Hill who started the December Market nine years previously.

Stalls did a roaring trade in the Churchyard, St Mary's Church was packed and shops were open for business; people were bopping away to Mike Rollo singing in his estate agents whist his team were serving drinks. It was possible to get a glass of wine too in Gaye's hairdressing saloon and in the Wivenhoe Gallery's showroom in the Business Centre!

Generally there was a great atmosphere and with everywhere lit up by multi-coloured lights put up by Wivenhoe's lighting team with the support of the Town Council.
