May 2002 - New Under 18s Football Team at Broad Lane Sports Ground
The first training session for the new
Under 18s football team was held on Thursday, 30th May 2002, at Broad Lane
Sports Ground. 32 lads turned up, with even more expected this week.
Rob and Daniel Partridge, and Bob Hall, the team's coach / managers
will have a tough time selecting twenty at end of June. They were
pleasantly surprised at the high standard of football skills shown. Boys
even turned up from Colchester Villa to try to get into squad.
The new team has been accepted into the Eastern Junior Alliance
(Northern Division) League. First friendly match arranged against
Histon on 27th July, to be played on same day as Wivenhoe Town's friendly
against the same opposition's first team. The idea for an Under 18s side
has come from Wivenhoe Youth Football Club and will come under Wivenhoe
Town Football Club, working in collaboration with Wivenhoe Youth FC.
Both Clubs are excited by the degree of interest being shown in the
formation of the team. It provides continuity for those youngsters who
have become sixteen and can no longer play youth football.
It also fits very well with Wivenhoe Town's new strategy of becoming a
more community-football focused club.
