| The plan below shows the pedestrian
access routes through Cook's Shipyard as proposed by Lexden Restorations
and Development in 2002.
The Outline Planning consent granted in February 2002 included a
stipulation under Reserved Matters stating the Scheme 'should
incorporate a public, pedestrian promenade no less wide or extensive than
that indicated on the approved indicative plan'.
Whilst the Cook's development scheme will require the removal of three short footpaths,
people will gain rights of access through and around the new development,
as indicated by the black dotted line. This includes rights of access on to the
jetty and all along the waterfront area, restoring the original line of
the footpath before the second world war when the shipyard undertook
sensitive work for the Navy.
When the building work at Cook's Shipyard is eventually completed, hopefully
by the end of 2007, people will have a wonderful walk from along West Quay
to the Sailing Club and further downstream on the river bank footpath, all
the way to Alresford Creek.
NOTE: Click here
for a statement from Taylor Woodrow (dated 13th December, 2005) about
footpaths, some of which will be replaced by public rights of
access. In this statement, Taylor Woodrow confirm they are taking
over the commitments made by Lexden Restorations.
