23rd October, 2005 - Taylor Woodrow starting work on Cook's Shipyard

Work is about to start on Cook's Shipyard by Taylor Woodrow after successfully concluding the purchase from Lexden Restorations at the beginning of October. The construction of 84 houses and apartments is expected to take 2 years. Development will be done as one complete phase rather than the 4 phases proposed by Lexden Restorations. Taylor Woodrow anticipate following the Master Plan and designs submitted by Lexden Restorations and approved by Colchester Borough Council in February 2002.

During the week starting 24th October, Taylor Woodrow's contractors, Knight Environmental [http://www.knightenvironmental.co.uk] will be bringing portacabins and equipment to Cook's in preparation for development to begin.

Hoardings will be going around that part of the site closest to the Wet Dock where work will commence first.

The good news is that Taylor Woodrow will not be bringing heavy equipment nor materials to the site by road, since they have negotiated with a Rowhedge-based haulage contractor to bring such items to Rowhedge and then across the river to Cook's by barge.

The route for site vehicles going to and from Cook's is under discussion and will be either via The Avenue, Belle Vue Road, Park Road, Valley Road and then Anglesea Road, or possibly avoiding the The Avenue and coming via Keelars Lane, Alresford Road, Bowes Road, Bobbits Way and then turning left into Valley Road. This latter route obviously passes by Millfields School and there are two times in the day extra traffic on Bowes Road should be avoided. It will be up to Taylor Woodrow and Knight Environmental to conduct their own assessment taking all factors into consideration.
