The Wivenhoe Encyclopedia

From PC Steve May, Wivenhoe's Community Police Officer from November 2003

I have recently taken over from Pc Tracey Allen as the new Community Police Officer. By way of introduction I have been a Police Officer for nearly 27 years now having worked at Clacton, Walton, Harwich and Mistley before transferring to the Colchester Division in October 2002.

I now work out of the Ipswich Road Police Office in Colchester together with the rest of the Northern Community Team where our role is mainly concerned with problem solving and Community issues.

Wivenhoe is covered twenty four hours a day by the response teams based at Colchester and any incidents or reports of crime should be made to the main Police Station on 01206 762212 or via the 999 system if an emergency.

As you are aware we are now rapidly approaching the pre- Christmas period with the dark evenings, and this time usually leads to a rise in the Burglary rate. I would therefore urge you to take special care to remember the basics of crime prevention which is to lock doors, shut windows when your house is unoccupied or at night and to keep valuables out of sight if left in your vehicle.

Please call us if you see anyone acting suspiciously, we would rather attend these calls than the resulting Burglary.

I would hasten to add that Wivenhoe is generally speaking a safe place to live, and that people's fear of crime is normally greater than the actual extent of crime.

I am looking forward to working in Wivenhoe and to carrying on the good Community work done by Pc Allen.

I can be contacted by phone on 01206 762212 or 01206 854324.
