3rd September 2008 - A Suspicious Man in a Red Van

From PCSO Louise Neville

Dear All

I would like to make you aware of the following incident.

At approximately 1900 on Monday 1st September, a 13 year old female was walking alone along  Rectory Road , Wivenhoe.  A male in a small red van (like a post van but with no wording) pulled over to the wrong side of the road and drove slowly adjacent with the female.  He continued to watch the female who then began to feel uncomfortable and walked quickly into  Stanley Road .  The male continued to drive along side the female although he continued to drive on the wrong side of the road.  He then stopped his vehicle in front of the female and opened the van door and called out to her.  The female then became scared and ran down the road, the male then started to follow the female at speed in the vehicle.  The female ran to a nearby house and asked for help.  The male is described as white, approx 5' 5, 45-55 yrs old, medium build, balding hair but with brownish tufts and he had piercing eyes.  Could I ask you to disseminate this information please as the more people who are aware the better.

If anyone comes to you with information could you please call WPC Wendy Byrne or myself on 0300 333 4444.
