Efit issued of sex attacker
Detectives investigating the sexual assault of a young woman in
Wivenhoe on Sunday, July 20, have released an efit of her attacker.
Police received a call just after 4.20pm on Sunday from the
16-year-old who said she had been assaulted in an alleyway between
Broome Grove and Vanessa Drive.
The suspect is described as white, aged 40 to 50 years old, 6ft
tall, of skinny build with broad shoulders, with brown and grey hair
which was fluffy and messy, wearing jeans and a grey jumper.
Prior to the assault the young woman was stopped while walking in
The Cross, known as the High Street, by the man who was driving a
four door car, dark in colour, possibly blue or purple.
He asked her for directions after he pulled his car across her path
at the entrance to the health centre at The Cross.
As she was walking away the man grabbed her wrist through the
driver’s window, threatened her with a knife and demanded she get
in the car.
He drove her to the alleyway, dragged her from the car by her hair
and assaulted her within the alleyway.
DI John Ross said: “The offence took place in the middle of the
afternoon, in a busy area of the town, so someone must have seen
something.
“We have three distinct events where this man may have been seen:
In his dark vehicle at the cross with the young woman talking
through the window; at the alleyway where she was dragged from the
car by her hair and finally where the man returns to his vehicle and
drove off.
“We are hoping this e-fit of the suspect will aid the public in
helping them give us information to identify who this woman’s
attacker is. I am appealing to anyone who has any information about
who this man is or details of the car he was driving to contact
police as soon as possible.
“The community should be reassured this type of incident is very
rare and a detailed investigation is under way to identify and
arrest this man and has been ongoing since the time of the
incident.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at Colchester
