CAR
HI-JACKING - BEWARE
When
entering your vehicle - you are about to drive off when you look into your
rear view mirror and see a piece of paper on your rear windscreen - what
do you do? Get out of the vehicle to remove this paper? NO! Drive
away from this location as this could be an attempted hi-jack of your
vehicle and belongings. It is possible as you leave the car to remove the
paper hi-jackers enter the car and drive away with the vehicle and all its
contents - including the handbag with your housekeys and identity papers.
Due
to improved security in the modern car thieves look at other ways to steal
the car and contents, hijacking vehicles can also be carried out by the
criminal creating an accident encouraging the vehicle owner to stop - if
this happens it is advised to drive to the nearest police station/dial 999
voicing the concerns and follow instructions. If stuck in traffic sound
the vehicle horn or set off the vehicle security system.
There
has also been an increase in car thefts by burglary of the home and
stealing car keys that are often left in a convenient place near the exit
door - place the keys away from the view of the intruder.
The
chances of the above happening to you are remote - however it is far
better to be safe than sorry.
