18th March 2007 - 5 House burglaries in Wivenhoe last Tuesday afternoon and one on Sunday afternoon too.

Regrattably on Tuesday 13th March, five Wivenhoe homes were forcibly entered, cash and jewellery stolen. This was a most unusual event in our town.

These burglaries took place in the afternoon:

Elizabeth Way at about 3.30pm
-  Stanley Road around 5.
45pm
-  in Rectory Road around 6pm
-  again in Rectory Road a few minutes
-  and finally at 6.50pm a resident in Stanley Road reported they too had been burgled.

Can anyone remember seeing anyone, or more than one person, acting suspiciously last Tuesday afternoon, 13th March? It is possible one of them was wearing a hooded jacket. Please let the Colchester Police know of anything you can remember that might help identify and catch this person or persons. Call 01206 762212.

And another one occurred in Clifton Terrace, some time on the following Sunday afternoon.

The police urge residents to take extra security precautions by locking windows and doors, and generally to be vigilant.

An Emergency Meeting of the Wivenhoe Community Safety NW Group

To help detect offenders and prevent other burglaries, an emergency meeting will take place of the Wivenhoe Community Safety NW Group on Wednesday 21st March at 7pm, in the Wivenhoe Town Council Offices, High Street, Wivenhoe.

Advice will also be available to better protect homes and how to assist our police.

This meeting is open to those interested in providing a safer community. If you would like to attend, please let Ken Rogers know so as to make sure enough seats are available.

Cllr. Ken Rogers. Police Liaison - Community Safety Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator. Tel: 01206 824813
