Report from
the Wivenhoe Community Safety NW Group - January 2003
The Christmas period is an important part of our lives. I am therefore
pleased to report that I was not notified of any criminal activity.
On behalf of the Wivenhoe Community Safety Neighbourhood Watch Committee I
visited the homeless and others to ensure that they were provided for. It
is of the utmost importance that the disadvantaged in our society are not
isolated. This can create resentment and on occasions turn individuals to
crime.
VEHICLES
Last year a Wivenhoe resident had goods stolen from her car parked outside
her house whilst she was taking in the shopping. We must all be observant
at all times and whenever practicable lock the car. In East London a car
was stolen containing a sleeping child on the back seat - fortunately the
child and car have been safely recovered by police - we can all learn a
lesson from these events and take extra precautions.
HOLIDAY HOMES - CARAVANS ETC
When leaving your holiday homes please remove all valuables. I recommend
that all cupboard doors are left open so that would be burglars can see
there is nothing of value to steal. This will prevent damage to your
holiday home.
CHRISTMAS PRESENTS
REMINDER two dedicated members of our committee are available to post code
any valuable presents such as cycles, tools, etc. If you require their
services please telephone Mr and Mrs Hatch 823135
BE ALERT
Be alert at all times and report persons acting suspiciously to the
police. If no police are available please telephone me and I will advise.
Being alert also applies to visits to Colchester or other places. We are
all aware of a possible terrorist attack in the UK. Also of the successes
of Scotland Yard and the Security services in arresting a number of
suspects. This success must not allow us to be complacent - STAY ALERT.
The committee wish to thank the Wivenhoe Town Council and the Community
for their support during 2002.
