WIVENHOE COMMUNITY SAFETY NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
Ken Rogers report for
August 2003
1.
Road Accident outside the Public Library - Friday 8th August
On Friday evening,
a road accident occurred in The High Street
outside the Public Library. A gentleman crashed into two stationary
vehicles. All vehicles sustained considerable damage. The driver suffered
from shock. Fortunately the other vehicles were unoccupied and no
pedestrians were involved.
The emergency services
are to be thanked for their quick response. The Fire Brigade were first on
the scene, followed by the ambulance and police services.
All of these individuals
were most courteous as well as dealing with the accident professionally.
The local community are
to be thanked for giving me assistance before the arrival of the emergency
services. Phoning the emergency services. Not smoking because of a
possible petrol leakage. Switching off vehicle engines. Providing a chair
for the shocked driver. Contacting friends of the driver. Last, but
not least, finding a pen and paper to write details down. Also for the off
duty nurse who checked the driver.
2.
Arson Attack in Chaney Road
After this event I
received a midnight telephone call re an alleged arson attack on a private
dwelling in Chaney Road - this was dealt with by the emergency services.
Did you see anything suspicious or any vehicle parking near the junction
of Broome Grove and Chaney Road just before midnight? If so please contact
the police. Police investigations continue.
This arson attack does
not appear to be related to criminal damage offences previously caused by
fire in Wivenhoe. Play area - bins etc.
3.
More fires
Previous to the above two
events the Fire Service attended to a car fire in Broadfields - no
suspicious circumstances.
4.
Wivenhoe Community Safety NW meetings
A member of the Fire
Service will be attending a Wivenhoe Community safety meeting to give a
talk on 'Safety' Another speaker will be a former Prince Charles Body
guard. Full details and dates to be announced at a later date.
It is important that we
all participate in providing a safer community. Please continue to
communicate with the Wivenhoe Community Safety Neighbourhood Watch Group
and your community police officer PC Tracy Allen on any issues of concern.
