JULY 2002 REPORT from your WIVENHOE COMMUNITY SAFETY NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH GROUP

There have been a number of burglaries in Broome Grove, Spring Close, Manor Road this month and an attempt in Park Road.

Despite warnings, householders are leaving ground floor doors and windows open at night and when vacating their homes.

The attempted burglary was at about midnight and other burglaries were also during the night time. The burglars could not gain entry to the house in Park Road due to good quality five lever locks that were already installed and all windows had been made secure.

Please inform the police if you are burgled, this also applies to attempted burglary.
If a burglary attempt is in progress, or has just been committed, dial 999 otherwise dial 762212 for Colchester Police Station.

It would also assist Ken Rogers (tel: 824813), your Community Safety Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator, if you would inform him too, as the Police do not always notify him of incidents in Wivenhoe as they state it would contravene the Data Protection Act.

Notification to Ken will provide in most instances immediate advice to prevent revictimization and also assist in preventing similar crimes occurring elsewhere in Wivenhoe.

Ken, who is a volunteer, gives free Crime Prevention advice. Advice can also be obtained from the Crime Reduction Officer (Civilian) at Colchester Police Station tel: 762212. (For Ken's qualifications see profile)

Early notification to your Community Safety NW can prevent revictimization to the victim and prevent crime happening to others within the Wivenhoe community. Such a system has worked elsewhere within the country and can work for Wivenhoe.

WORKING TOGETHER WE CAN REDUCE CRIME AND THE FEAR OF CRIME.

LOCKS - Choose minimum of five levers - lock should display British Standards 'kitemark.'

TIME SWITCHES - time switches are available to programme your lighting to switch on and off. Also exterior lighting with movement detectors (PIR) both systems act as deterrent. Obtainable from your local electrical shop Allcock and Stevens in the High Street (tel: 822311).
