Christmas Recycling Dates -
2009/10
Christmas time is naturally a period where we all produce more waste and it
is important to continue to recycle as much as possible. Colchester
residents can continue to recycle over the festive period this year with
alternate GREEN and BLUE week collections remaining in place as throughout
the rest of the year.
The week leading up to Christmas, starting 21 December, will be a GREEN
week. Collections for residents who normally have a collection on
Fridays will next receive one on Saturday 2 January.
The week immediately following Christmas and New Year, starting 28
December, is a BLUE week. Paper and cardboard wrappings from presents
should be separated into recycling as well as any bottles, cans and tinfoil
generated from entertaining. There will be no collection on the Monday, the
next one being on 4 January. All other collections will take place as usual.
The first week in 2010 will be a GREEN week when residents will be
able to put their real Christmas trees out for recycling in their garden
waste sacks. Christmas trees should be cut in to manageable chunks before
they are put out for collection. Please separate for recycling all mixed
plastic packaging from food, drink and toys in a clear sack for collection
in the GREEN week along with any real Christmas trees.
Please check your copy of the recycling guide and calendar for a reminder of
what is collected in each week and bank holiday arrangements. This will help
ensure Colchester is a cleaner and greener Borough throughout the festive
period.
• Residents who need additional clear sacks can collect them for free from a
range of locations. Download your copy of the recycling guide and find the
