Colchester Borough Councils
Free Trees for Years
Initiative 2009
Trees for Years 2009 will take place on
Saturday January 24th.
Members of the public will be able to come along and collect their
free trees from Rowan House car
park (off Sheepen Road , Colchester ) from
10.00am 3pm and plant them on
their own property.
All properties must be in the Colchester
Borough. Each resident, school, community group and Parish/Town Council
will have to provide their postcode and property number so the distribution
can be monitored.
To help promote grow
your own food this years selection also includes two species of
fruit bushes, Raspberries and Blackcurrant.
In total there will be nine different native
tree species available, suitable for all garden sizes. These are:
Acer campestre Field
Maple
Betula pendula Silver
Birch
Corylus avellana - Hazel
Prunus padus Bird Cherry
Cornus alba Sibirica -
Dogwood
Eleagnus augustifolia -
Quicksilver
Guelder Rose Viburnum
opulus
Raspberry Canes
Blackcurrant Canes
Cultivation guidance will be available so that
trees can be selected, taking into account the ultimate size and form of
mature trees or visit
