The "7 x 7 Wivenhoe Retrospective"

Since May 2002 the Wivenhoe Bookshop has had the extra joy of the Over-the-Sofa gallery. Each month since they have exhibited a different artist. All the artists have been local and nearly all based in Wivenhoe. As they are the only permanent gallery space in Wivenhoe this has been hugely popular with the residents and artists and also the many visitors to the picturesque, creative village of Wivenhoe.

The Wivenhoe Bookshop has therefore felt it is high time for a celebration of both the continuing successes of the Over-the-Sofa gallery, as well as the installation of a new lighting system specifically for the gallery space. This celebration will take the form of a launch party for the exhibition and lights, and a month long retrospective of all the artists shown since May 2002.

The retrospective has taken on a particularly interesting form as there has been the problem of fitting a large number of works in "probably the smallest gallery in the world." Each artist therefore agreed to produce an artwork no larger than 7x7 inches in size (smaller than this sheet of paper) specifically for this exhibition! 7x7, then, will be the largest exhibition of Wivenhoe and local area artists, with works all no more than 7x7 inches in size, in the smallest gallery in the world.

The artists include: Eliza Kentridge, Terry Curling, Stephanie Norland, Annie Bielecka, Anne Schwegman-Fielding, Helen Lee, Alison Stockmarr, Jean McNeil, Pam Dan, Gosia Urbanowicz, Barry Woodcock, Paul Rumsay, Tessa
Spencer-Pryse, Emma Cameron, Robert Priseman, James Dodds and Liz Pollard, all battling it out all on an equal scale.

The exhibition runs from 29th November, to 31st December, Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm
