a Wivenhoe
Retrospective
Since
May 2002, the Wivenhoe Bookshop has had the extra joy of the Over-the-Sofa
gallery.
Every
single month since then we have exhibited a different artist. All our
artists have been local and nearly all based in Wivenhoe. As we are the
only permanent gallery space in Wivenhoe this has been popular with local
residents and artists alike. We all know Wivenhoe is such a creative
community but the continuing interest in local artists proves the need for
this space.
We
therefore feel it is time for a celebration of both the continuing success
of the Over-the-Sofa gallery as well as the installation of new lighting
specifically for the gallery space. This celebration will take the form of
a launch party for the lights and a month long retrospective of the
artists we have shown up to November 2003.

The
retrospective will take on a particularly interesting form as we have the
difficulty of fitting a large number of works in a small space. We
therefore decided to theme the exhibition by limiting the size of the work
the artists can submit to 7x7, then there will be an exhibition of works
all of no more than 7x7 inches in size, which has the added bonus of
making great little Christmas gifts of original artwork.
