Philosophy
Breakfast
“Most
people think philosophically”, says eminent local philosopher, “all
you need is a good breakfast and good company…”
Are
you prepared to believe six impossible things before breakfast? Then you
will certainly enjoy the forthcoming Philosophy
Breakfasts at the Wivenhoe Bookshop.
They
will take place over ten weeks throughout the summer on Saturday mornings
in the Bookshop
shed (or garden if the weather’s good!)
Colin
Phillips, who has lectured in philosophy at various universities, will
introduce the topics and encourage discussion.
Croissants
and coffee
will be served to help awaken the little grey cells.
Philosophy
seeks to identify and examine the fundamental assumptions underpinning
science, religion, politics, psychology…yet it need not be intimidating,
and might even be fun.

Each
session will tackle a particular area, eg what makes an act right or
wrong? Can wars or acts of terrorism be justified? What should be central,
human rights or human duties?
Taster
sessions
Why
not come to one of the taster sessions where you can decide
whether to book up for the Summer sessions. The tasters are only £2.50
per person on the 19th or 26th
May at 10am (please phone or email
to book your place).
