| February 2008 - Wivenhoe Funny
Farm Update
January's Wivenhoe Funny Farm was a popular event, with Radio 4's Jo
Caulfield attracting a full house to see her witty act. Attendees had an
extra treat in the form of Brightlingsea raised Laura Rumbold performing
her first ever comedy gig.
She drew appreciative laughs from the audience for her quirky
ruminations on gerbils, bingo wings and American presidents, and few could
believe that she hadn't performed comedy before. Laura said of the
experience: 'I loved it... thanks to Wivenhoe Funny Farm for giving me the
opportunity to do my first gig'.
Laura has been attending a class run by local comedian Hazel Humphreys,
who has taught comedy for beginners to students of Essex University and
Colne Community College. The class helps people write comedy and gain
confidence for performance, and Hazel can be contacted by anyone
interested in learning the basics on funnyfarmwiv@hotmail.com
Wivenhoe Funny Farm aims to continue promoting new, local talent over the
next few months as well as showcasing top professional acts. The next
night is on Wednesday 28th February
and features the extremely funny Sol Bernstein ('an instantly winning
creation' - The Independent) with support from Juliet Myers, Mike Manera
and Wivenhoe's very own Dean Jones along with MC Hazel Humphreys. Doors
open 7pm for an 8pm start. Pay on door £5 (£3.50 concessions).
