Wivenhoe Funny Farm News

- April 2006

This newsletter is to provide some news on comedy dates for the coming months. I really appreciate everyone who comes supporting live comedy at the Wivenhoe funny farm once a month. It was our 6th month in March, and it was attended by just over 60 people!

Our club is non-profit-making with all the door splits going to the acts and the organisers making absolutely nothing (and sometimes slightly less) for their time and effort, so we rely on your support to keep the club going and to keep attracting and affording quality comedians.

On Thursday 27th April our headliner will be one of my favourite acts Dylan

“An entertaining character act, Dylan performs as a backward West Country yokel…breathless, pointless and demented anecdotes” - Chortle

with support from:
Danny Hurst "An Übercamp purveyor of an original brand of smut and double entendre...bold and witty" - Chortle
Martin Evans “fresh and original material” comedycv
Mark Allen  "One to watch in the future." - comedyvibe

Compere: Tony Cowards

We also have a show on Thursday 11th May – acts to be confirmed but will include the accomplished and poetic ex-Teesider Hartley Pool  (I’m getting married on 20th May, so the May gig is earlier than usual.)

On Thursday 29th June headliner is to be Robin Ince possibly recognisable to you from his brief scene in “The Office” and from his appearance in the extras on Ricky Gervais’s politics DVD.

-          “an accomplished, and often very sick, act.” Chortle

Compere is the wonderful Josie Long "One of Britain's bright new hopes of the comedy scene" - SUNDAY TIMES

Support includes Johnny Morris (not that one!) a brilliantly warped view of the world” Promoter Piccadilly Circus comedy club

On Thursday 27th July our headliner will be loveable Irish, Iranian, Geordie Patrick Monahan:
-"An upbringing infused with culture clashes and his unconventional mind, Monahan is a hybrid calamity with a comic pedigree that's all his own." The List
-"This gifted livewire commands the stage with a mix of wit and force of personality" (Bruce Dessau) Evening Standard 2003

Support includes Ipswich lad Andrew Doyle

After that gigs will probably be the last Thursday of each month.

As usual pay on door. Cost £5. Concessions (DSS/NUS/OAP etc) £3.50    Members of Wivenhoe Football Club pay £4, Members of Essex Student comedy club pay £3.

Doors open 7pm, comedy should start 8pm

Venue: Wivenhoe Town Football Club, Elmstead Road, CO7 9HX

If people want to book tables for any of the nights in question then email us (if you book a table in advance and don’t turn up by 8pm on the night the table will be reallocated.)

If there are any sorts of acts people want to see, or suggestions you would like to make (within reason), please send us an e-mail:
