| July 2008 - Wivenhoe Town FC
Event at Broad Lane on Sat 26th July
Wivenhoe Town FC are organising a football competition at Broad Lane
Sports Ground on Saturday 26th July. This Competition has been set up to
invite the local community to play at Broad Lane and to celebrate the
creation of Wivenhoe's first veterans football team (over 35s). It starts
at 12 noon and goes on until 6pm.
The participating teams are the King George Playing Fields Sunday XI, the Police, the Fire Brigade,
Wivenhoe Youth Fathers XI, Wivenhoe Veterans and an American/Dutch side.
The teams are drawn from across the village and we expect it to be a hotly
contested competition!
The tournament will be on a league basis with semi-finals and a final
to decide the winners.
Given this is very much a community event, we have organised face
painting, a bouncy castle for children as well as a mini soccer area, and
the police and fire services will be bringing their vehicles with
them.
Admission is free and the bar and burger bar will be open all day, to
ensure that there is refreshment throughout!
Mike Boyle, Chairman WTFC said: "This is the first of
hopefully many opportunities where we can work with Wivenhoe Youth and
other key stakeholders in the community to raise the profile of Wivenhoe
Town FC within the village envelope".
