Wivenhoe Town's last match at Broad Lane this season
Broad Lane Sports ground
has long been the venue for many great local achievements over its time.
Hosting a wide range of sporting activities for the young and
old.
Taking this history a step
further Wivenhoe Town kindly offered the chance for the stars of tomorrow
who play for Wivenhoe Youth under 9's and 8's to lead out the teams before
their final home fixture of the season, against Redbridge.
As the 22 young lads took
their places a buzz of excitement between them could be heard, is
this Wivenhoe Town or Manchester United? It mattered little to the young
lads, a chance to be walking out onto hallowed turf in a real football
stadium with their older counterparts was a chance for them to experience
"what real footballers do" watched by parents and the press
they lined up for photos, the proud faces of the boys was a joy to watch.
As half time drew closer,
even more excitement for the Wivenhoe Youth lads as they took to the pitch
for a game of mini soccer. This was a great day for the lads to experience
a game of football and play on the Wivenhoe Town pitch.
A very enjoyable time was
had by all. This promises to be a feature to be repeated next season.
"Local football is the winner today" commented Wivenhoe Youth
Chairman Nicholas Murphy-Whymark, "thanks to Wivenhoe Town, who have
kindly given a great experience to 22 of our local players, this is
something that both clubs recognise as key to the continuing development
of local football at all levels. It was good to see teams young and old,
take to the pitch together, and a day our lads will surely not
forget"
And the score, Wivenhoe
Town won 1-0 and secured the support of 22 local boys!
