Christmas 2004 at The Paw Gallery Wivenhoe
27 West Street, Wivenhoe

Opens Sat 27th November to Sunday 19th December 2004

I can’t believe that this will be my fourth Christmas exhibition in Wivenhoe already.  The first one was in 2001 when Jamie Dodds encouraged me to give it a whirl and I shared his studio in St. John’s Road.  It is thanks to him that the Paw Gallery was started.  So what’s on the menu this time?  Mostly your favourite exhibitors to date, plus some rather good new ones.

Portrait of a bird by Robina JackThere will be stained glass by Robina Jack and metal work by Mark Dyvig.  Lucy Casson’s witty creatures are inspired by the poetry and comedy of everyday life.  If they are a little beyond the budget how about a slate fish by Tetley.  A roofer by trade, Tetley has built up quite a following with his fish, which can be displayed in the garden or inside.

Jewellery is always very popular and there will be silver work by Richard Whitehouse, delightfully colourful and funky earrings by Rosie Taylor and lacquered copper work by Stephen Galloway-Whitehead.

For the joy of pure decoration there is intricately made textile pictures by Christine Fenn, who has real mastery over her textiles which she uses so skilfully that she could be painting.  Much respected Wivenhoe artist Emma Cameron will be showing her work for the first time at the Paw Gallery.

If its furniture that interests you there will be hand crafted chairs by Jim Parsons who makes traditional designs with a modern twist.  Kevin Lucas has made painted pieces with colours chosen by his very talented wife Jackie.  Chas Crocker, who works in oak, is yet to decide what he will be making!

Ceramics always make a wonderful present, there is nothing better than Sylvia Dale’s stylish earthenware jugs.  Just look carefully at their profile and you will see why her work is so highly sortafter.  Meriel Ensom’s painted driftwood simply gets better and better, whilst Suzie Wilson’s embroidered cushions are becoming collector’s items.

Is there anyone I’ve missed – of course there is, come along and check it out for yourself.
