| EXHIBITING UP TOWN COLCHESTER
- May 2005
Two local photographers, Stephanie Harland and Judy
Payne, are presenting an exhibition of photographs showing the stylish
side of life in Colchester.
Entitled Up Town, the exhibition takes its
inspiration from film, music, and fashion. The resulting contemporary
images are portraits of models and musicians - including three images of
musician Steve Harley; all of which were shot at locations within the
Colchester Borough.

Harland Payne takes commissions from commercial clients
in the education, health care, media, print, and advertising sectors, but
they are also well known for the informality and style of their wedding
photography. In both disciplines their creative, fresh approach has gained
many admirers of their work. Stephanie was honoured to receive the Gold
Medal from The Royal Photographic Society in 2003 for her documentary
photograph of a protest outside the US Supreme Court.
Stephanie and Judy explain the themes behind this
exhibition: "We chose the name Up Town as it seemed to us to embrace
the ideas of glamour, fashion and a sense of place that we wanted to
explore through our work. We're not seeking to re-create a film set here,
but we hope that our photographs will be just as alluring."
The Exhibition was first shown at the Cabaret Voltaire
Gallery, 18 Church Walk, Colchester, from 28th August until Friday
8 October, 2004. Selected images from the exhibition were also displayed in local department stores
and received an enthusiastic reception from
traders and businesses in the town.
'Up Town' is back again, and this time at:
Les Livres Gallery, Colchester Central Library from 26th April,
until 23rd May, 2005.
