October 2008 - Report on Michael Weldon and Maggie Bernstein's Exhibition in September 2008

Both Michael Weldon and Maggie Bernstein were thrilled at the positive response to the exhibition of their work held at The Studio, East End Green, Brightlingsea in the second week of September. They had visitors in large numbers every single day who expressed interest and delight with their very different painting styles and techniques.

Michael's delicate touch with landscapes and seascapes which included many local views as well as complex and finely executed paintings of Venetian and other foreign landmarks was much feted. His skill in composition, colour and form were shown to their full extent by his paintings of architectural detail such as his "Florentine Door" and other paintings of the same quality and depth.

Maggie's work ranged from representational still life an example of which, "The Potting Shed" attracted a great many compliments and so too did her latest and more expressionist paintings.

One painting in particular, called "Bluebell Wood, Wivenhoe" was very well received with many congratulatory remarks about her ability as a colourist as well as an appreciation of the somewhat rhythmic form and mood of the work, which pleased her greatly.

Maggie said: "We were both delighted to be able to sell a great many pictures, prints and cards, which should keep us in paint, paper, brushes and canvas for a while!"

All the visitors were struck by the stunning riverside setting of Colin Kirby-Green's Studio and its intriguing and beautiful interior was much praised with many visitors expressing an interest in studying there themselves as well as attending the wonderfully diverse musical concerts which take place there once a month. We felt very honoured to be exhibiting in such a gorgeous setting.
